Frequently Asked Questions
Solar panels are known for their durability, some lasting more than 20 years. But, being they are outside and open to the elements, they gather ash, bird droppings, debris, dust, pollen, and pollution. Enough accumulated dirt can potentially block sunlight and reduce your array’s efficiency by 30%.
DO I NEED TO HAVE MY PANELS CLEANED?
One contributing factor in the drop of solar panel efficiency is accumulated dust, bee pollen, and bird droppings. Studies show that dirty solar panels can lose up to 25% of their energy output and research shows that dirty solar panels can lose 40% of their efficiency compared to clean solar systems. Solar panels work by allowing light into the solar cells so more light hitting the panels means more power being generated.
DO I NEED TO BE HOME WHEN YOU ARE CLEANING MY PANELS?
No. As long as we have access to your panels, there is no need for you to be present during your cleaning. You can always call or email us with special instructions for panel access if needed.
WILL RAINWATER CLEAN MY SOLAR?
No. A good example is by looking at your car window. If you didn't clean your windshield for six months how much visibility would you have? Even if the panels are rained on, rainwater contains airborne particles and with the dust already settled on your panels, those particles settle and attach to the surface of your solar even after the water has evaporated.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY PANELS BE CLEANED?
Regular cleaning will ensure that your solar system is operating at peak performance throughout the year. Having your panels cleaned two to three times per year is adequate for the majority of residential systems and is recommended by most solar manufactures.
